This form of etching will not fade, wash off or disappear over time. It is permanent and dishwasher safe. Each piece is hand-crafted and, as a result, is unique - no two glasses or items are exactly alike. Sand blastin is a process for cutting into the surface of glass, glassware or crystal with a pressurized abrasive material (silicon carbide). Before the abrasive is applied to the glass, the artisan covers the entire surface with a protective vinyl material. The artisan then sprays the abrasive onto the exposed areas of the glass. Once the desired depth of the etching is reached, the artisan removes the vinyl material and the glass is cleaned and prepped for shipment.
